Oranginess, Jägermeister and Ville Valo

Oranginess

Something else that I love about October is the colours – the red, yellow, brown and total oranginess of October is awesome. The whole feel of it makes you want to start preparing to settle in and get snugly without yet the cold and wetness of the winter. Great October days are when its brilliant sunshine and yet slightly chilly and you breathe in deep and get the impression you are giving your lungs an airing (autumn cleaning?). Of course the downside to this time of year is the likelihood of catching a cold or even flu! I guess it’s because of this that my shopping seems to turn all orangey also. Suddenly, without thinking, I am buying cartons and cartons of fresh orange juice, bags of oranges, satsumas, clementines, and tangerines – even Jaffa cakes! Bring on the vitamin C. Halloween prompts pumpkin purchases (although this year my Aunt and Uncle have kindly produced a mahoosive pumpkin from their allotment for me so I wont need to buy – thank you kindly x) and many ‘special Halloween edition’ products. The chill in the air brings on the need for hot snacks instead of a sandwich – like beans on toast or vegetable soup – orange, orange, orange! Inside and outside – October is deliciously Orange.

Something new

Speaking of orange…..a couple of weeks ago during a family get together my brother introduced us to the world of Jägermeister – primarily by way of Jäger-bombs (shots of Jägermeister dropped into a glass of Red Bull). Nice. I’d heard of the drink before, there was a huge sponsorship area at Download Festival a couple of years back where we acquired many orange bandanas, lanyards and also little plastic tubs containing orange ear plugs, but I’d never tried it (or the ear plugs). So I did…and I liked! (just the drink, not the plugs). Now I want to try different variations and so I’ve been taking a stroll around their website and the net in general and preparing my list ready for the next gathering of our clan.
Here’s a few of what I have so far….

Jägerpirinha - Jägermeister, crushed ice, sugar, fruits of the forest, lime.
Jäger Fizz - Jägermeister, lemon juice, sugar syrup, soda water
Jäger Orange (of course!) - Jägermeister, orange juice, ice
BullNut - Jägermeister, Red Bull, coconut syrup, crushed ice
Dogmen’s Revenge - Jägermeister, peach schnapps, raspberry juice
Wild Woman - Jägermeister, Malibu, pineapple juice
BoomBassTic - Jägermeister, orange juice, cherry juice
Loch Ness Monster - Jägermeister, baileys, melon liqueur
Halloween (yay!!) - Jägermeister, peppermint, schnapps, coke & ice
Golden Raspberry - Jägermeister, vodka, tequila, raspberry juice grenadine
Jägermeister on Mars - Jägermeister, orange juice, blue curacao, grenadine, ice.
Redheaded Slut - Jägermeister, peach schnapps, cranberry juice
Lindsay Lohan - as above but with a splash of coke (!!!!! naughty !!!!)

and

Jäger Metal - Jägermeister, coffee liqueur, lemon juice, orange juice, ice
(apparently the official Love Metal Longdrink mixed by
Ville Valo (HIM) – mmmmm)
Can't wait to try them!

October - Halloween- Acupuncture - This Is It

October…..

October is my very favourite month and I feel it slipping away already, after all we’re practically half way through now and if I’m not careful I’ll miss it altogether.

October is the best for me for a few reasons. Here’s a couple….

Firstly October is my birth month….yay! I don’t tend to do a whole lot to celebrate my actual birthday ( although cards and pressies are always very nice and much appreciated!) but I do like to feel that the month is special, that its my month, so I party away at a mini personal month long celebration in my mind (with balloons!).

Secondly….Halloween. Oh hell yeah! Love it. Love it. Love it! The decorations, the costumes, the mystery, the history – at Halloween I am in my element. I’m itching to retrieve from the loft the boxes and boxes and boxes of Halloweenie delights that have been carefully stored away for a whole year, to decorate my house and figure out what we are all dressing up as this year.

One problem though – as yet we have no party to organise or go to. I’ve been a little off colour and so haven’t organised anything myself and the kids are now full-on teenagers who may very well rather party with their pals – or not at all! What to do?

I have however (and I really don’t know how) resisted the urge to splash out on a lot of new editions to my Halloween collection. I have a lot of stuff already. No, really. A LOT of stuff, upon which over recent years I have spent a fair sum, plus I usually make some extras each year as well. So far this year I have only purchased 3 Halloween items – 1. a pack of bloody fingers ( to add to my bloody dismembered body parts collection). 2. a plastic blood splattered saw ( to add to my bloody dismemberment tools collection) and 3. a Cauldron Fogger (just because I didn’t have one!). Bring it on ……

Something new…..

Recently I had a course of Acupuncture to see if it would help with some lower back problems I am experiencing. Having needles stuck in me wasn’t my idea of fun but for the most part it didn’t actually hurt – except the one stuck into my little toe! Ouchie!
The chap carrying out the treatment tried various arrangements of the needles over the weeks, presumably working on specific points where the life energy flows, and at times hooked some of the needles up to a tens machine (electro-acupuncture), handed me the control and asked me to turn it up to the highest I could stand. Turn it up just a smidgen too high and they are peeling you back down from the ceiling!
Due to the nature of my ailment the majority of needles were being concentrated on the areas of my lower back and left buttock. Periodically, after decorating these areas with needles, and with or without the electric-shock addition, he would ask me to just relax for 15 minutes or so while he leaves the room – apparently some people will be so relaxed they will nod off for a while. Not me. Relax ? I am laying there with my rear end exposed, resembling a giant albino porcupine, and occasionally having jolts of electricity passing through me. Plus of course you daren’t move – there are loads of needles sticking out of you! How can you relax?
Anyway the long and short of it is that having completed the course of treatment I found it to have had no effect on my condition, nor did it offer me any pain relief. It does however work for a great many people. At least now I know it’s not for me and can tick it off my list.

Another something new…. Heard the new Michael Jackson song, This Is It, played on the radio this morning. Can’t remember much of the tune now as I was distracted all the way through by thoughts of how prophetic is the title of his ‘last ever’ track.
